FEEC BUT shines at CIE Midterm Meeting 2025 in Vienna
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication (FEEC) of Brno University of Technology achieved significant success at the CIE Midterm Meeting 2025 in Vienna, where it presented cutting-edge measurement technology for light pollution monitoring. This recognized event, which brings together lighting and environmental science experts, provided FEEC with an ideal platform to showcase its innovative solutions to an international audience. The FEEC booth attracted considerable attention from industry professionals, researchers, and policymakers, including Tony Bergen, Director of the Australian Photometry and Radiometry Laboratory, Yoshi Ohno from NIST laboratories in Washington, Ruskin Hartley (CEO of DarkSky.org), and George Brainard, a prominent expert from Jefferson University in Philadelphia. Lively discussions highlighted the faculty's advances in environmental monitoring, with the greatest interest generated by drone technology and aerial measurement capabilities. This innovative approach, enabling precise and scalable light pollution monitoring, became the main attraction and opened doors to potential collaborations. The ALANISATOR measurement device prototype and the newly emerging OLPA system were presented.
"Participation in CIE 2025 underscores FEEC's commitment to addressing urgent environmental challenges through advanced technologies," said Petr Baxant, team leader of the lighting technology group. "The great interest in drones and aerial light measurements shows their potential to change how we monitor and mitigate light pollution worldwide."
FEEC BUT continues to push the boundaries of electrical engineering and environmental sustainability. The faculty looks forward to developing contacts established in Vienna and to further progress in research for a brighter and more sustainable future.
