The first edition of the nuclear energy event, perFEKT AtomDay 2025, attracted hundreds of students
On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, more than 300 high school and university students filled the Professor Brauner Auditorium at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication (FEEC), Brno University of Technology (BUT), to capacity. Throughout the day, dozens more joined to get a close-up look at the world of nuclear energy. The first edition of perFEKT AtomDay, organized by the Department of Electrical Power Engineering, offered students and the general public a unique opportunity to meet industry experts, learn about current trends, and try out modern technologies used in nuclear energy.

The event was under the patronage of Rector Ladislav Janíček, who, together with Karel Katovský, program guarantor for Nuclear Energy, officially opened the day. In their opening speeches, they emphasized the importance of nuclear energy for the Czech Republic and the need for a strong link between university education and industry practice.
The event also received personal patronage from the Minister of Industry and Trade, Lukáš Vlček.
Technology, Inspiration, and Networking
The full-day program featured 16 expert lectures covering a wide range of topics – from the construction of new nuclear units and licensing processes to small modular reactors and modern approaches to radiation protection. Experts from thirteen leading companies and institutions presented not only the latest technological trends but also real-life experiences from the nuclear energy sector. Participants met representatives from:
ČEZ, ČEZ Energoservis, JAVYS, MICO, MICO Servis, Mifre, Nuvia, State Office for Nuclear Safety (SÚJB), Radioactive Waste Repository Authority (SÚRAO), ŠKODA JS, ÚJV Group, Bertin VF NUCLEAR, and VUJE.

Visitors could also try measurements with both historical and modern dosimetry instruments used in the nuclear industry and visit booths of participating companies and institutions. The faculty’s Elektrikárium gaming room was open throughout the day.
In the afternoon, company representatives met with faculty leadership and the Department of Electrical Power Engineering to summarize current collaborations and discuss potential future partnerships in education and STEM activities promoted by the faculty.
Outside the faculty, visitors were treated to a special surprise – BUT’s first nuclear reactor. Displayed as a half-scale inflatable model, attendees could inspect it closely and learn about its construction and operating principles.

Master’s Program in Nuclear Energy
The day also featured a presentation of the Master’s program in Nuclear Energy, developed at FEEC BUT in collaboration with the Faculty of Chemistry (FCH), Faculty of Civil Engineering (FCE), and Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FME).
Program guarantor Karel Katovský explained that the program integrates electrical engineering, physics, materials engineering, and computer science, offering a strong connection between theory and practice. He emphasized that graduates gain skills crucial for the future of nuclear energy.

Event Feedback
The main organizer, Lukáš Nesvadba, described the first edition as a success, highlighting the strong interest from young visitors. He noted that the event achieved its primary goal – connecting high school and university students with industry experts and showing that nuclear energy is not a distant world, but a field with enormous potential. “The number and interest of high school students – more than 250 – pleasantly surprised us and gives hope that young people are genuinely interested in technology and future energy,” added Nesvadba.
Finally, Linda Navrátilová from ČEZ strategic recruitment praised the high attendance, student enthusiasm, and excellent organization by the FEKT team: “On behalf of the ČEZ Group, I would like to thank you for a very successful perFEKT AtomDay. We are glad that nuclear energy comes to life at VUT! We were thrilled by the large turnout and excellent organization. Special thanks go to the organizers from Petr Toman’s team.”
