Maker Faire is coming, and BUT will be there! | Author: Jitka Janů The Maker Faire festival is one of the largest showcases of creativity, technology, and innovation in the Czech Republic. Visitors can look forward to interactive demonstrations, experiments, and student projects. “We want to show that technology can be playful, inspiring, and accessible to everyone. Maker Faire is a great opportunity to present the work of students and experts from Brno University of Technology to the public and to motivate young people toward technical education,” said BUT event coordinator Lenka Svobodová, adding thatBrno University of Technology will present nineteen innovative and original projectsat the festival.
Experts from BUT will explain that3D printingis not just about pressing the “print” button but also about engineering thinking. Visitors can see 3D printers in action and test their knowledge in a quiz competition. They can also tryassembling a mechanical buttonmade entirely from 3D-printed parts. And in the three-dimensional world, there will also be a3D scanner— a positioning device that photographs objects from all sides and angles.
If you enjoy games, don’t miss theeducational chessboard, which suggests the best possible moves to players, or theelectronic dicethat can recognize which side it landed on and send the result to a mobile app using built-in sensors.
Robot enthusiasts will surely enjoy meeting thehumanoid robot InMoov, which can blink, move its eyes, smile, or even shake hands with visitors, and its smaller colleague, the robot SpongeBob, which children can control and make dance. University student teams are also heading to Maker Faire. From the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communications,Brno Mars Roverwill showcase its robotic Mars exploration vehicles,YSpacewill present the world of space engineering, and theDrone Research Centerwill demonstrate creative drone technologies. Visitors can learn how drones are built, what equipment they can carry, and even try flying them using a simulator.
From the mechanical engineering side, the student teamPneuracerwill present an upgraded model of a compressed-air-powered car,Chicken Wingswill showcase remote-controlled airplanes, andTU Brno Racingwill display the latest model of their electric Formula Student car, the Dragon e5. Visitors can also take part in interactive activities to assemble some parts and experience what it’s like to work on a racing monopost.
Mechatronics and design will be represented by theMechLablaboratory, the student teamLizard Engineers, and experts from the creative workshopStrojLAB, which offers modern equipment for 3D printing, laser cutting, prototyping, and other digital manufacturing technologies. Experts from MechLab and StrojLAB have also preparedspecial workshopsin the workshop zone, focused onDC motor controlandgenerative design and 3D printing modeling.
Maker Faire 2024. | Author: Jitka Janů The festival will also feature an exhibition of bachelor’s projects titledHusovice 2030+, created by students from the Faculty of Architecture at BUT.
