Coffee at Lány with President Petr Pavel
On Tuesday, August 19th, an exceptional meeting took place at Lány between President Petr Pavel and young founders of innovative companies and creators of breakthrough projects from various corners of the Czech Republic. The event aimed to highlight the initiative and creative activities of the young generation - from university projects to their commercial development after graduation. Over 40 selected participants were invited to the prestigious meeting, whose nominations were coordinated by the South Moravian innovation centre (JIC). Among the invited was Dominik Klement, a doctoral student at our faculty and founder of the Volteek project.

Dominik Klement thus represented our faculty as a successful example of student entrepreneurship. This doctoral candidate working at the Department of Theoretical and Experimental Electrical Engineering gained recognition through his Volteek project, which he launched during his master's studies in 2023. For his initiative, he earned the prestigious VUT Entrepreneurship Award.
The history of Volteek begins directly on the grounds of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication (FEEC), where a group of students with university support created a modular battery management system for Formula Student racing cars. However, the originally academic project quickly expanded far beyond campus boundaries. The team managed to adapt their solution for industrial use and even for space missions. A key milestone was their inclusion in the prestigious ESA BIC (European Space Agency's Business Incubation Centre) program, which provides them with expert guidance and infrastructure for further expansion. The team's ambitions reach high - they plan to develop technologies for space applications and continue innovating energy solutions.
Dominik says about his renewed meeting with the president: "It was a great opportunity to meet young entrepreneurial people with the same ambitions. We established many new contacts, broadened our horizons, and gained insight into how interesting projects are emerging in the Czech Republic."
Interestingly, Dominik had already personally "collaborated" with President Pavel once before - during the October visit to VUT, the president signed the KOSTKA mission satellite of the YSpace team, where Dominik also works. The president reportedly remarked at the time that even Earth isn't enough for them and that he's rooting for the students on their journey to the stars.
