BUT ranks among TOP 500 in global sustainability ranking
In the prestigious QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2026, Brno University of Technology confirmed its position as the leading technical university in the Czech Republic. It ranked 500th globally and 5th in the Czech Republic. BUT managed to increase its overall score by 9% year-on-year.

The ranking assesses how universities address the biggest global challenges in the areas of environmental, social impact, and governance (ESG). BUT appeared in the QS Sustainability ranking for the third time. Despite the year-on-year increase in the number of institutions evaluated and the intensifying competition, Brno University of Technology has maintained its position among the 500 best schools in the world. "Maintaining our position among the world's top 500 in such a dynamically growing ranking is an important signal for us. I am pleased that we have managed to improve the university's overall score year-on-year by a significant nine percent. This confirms that the steps we are taking in the area of responsible university management and in supporting the employability of our graduates are bearing fruit. As the highest-ranked Czech technical university, we feel a commitment not only in how we manage the university, but above all in what technologies we develop for a sustainable future," said BUT Rector Ladislav Janíček about the results.

The British company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) emphasizes three main pillars in its methodology: Environmental Impact (45%), Social impact (45%), and Governance (10%).
It was in the main category of Governance that BUT achieved its best result ever. Ranked 235th in the world, it is among the global leaders. This category assesses ethical culture, transparency of decision-making, and student representation in management.

The university also made significant progress in the area of Employability and Opportunities, where it jumped to 359th place. This result reflects strong links with industrial partners and the high demand for BUT graduates on the labor market. Environmental Research remains a traditionally strong discipline, with BUT ranking 381st in this category. Both of these areas are subcategories of the main category Environmental Impact.
The Health and Wellbeing subcategory (part of the main Social Impact category) saw the biggest jump, with BUT moving up more than 150 places to 493rd, demonstrating the growing impact of research on the quality of human life.
