A Piece of BUT for Everyone: The University Has Launched a New E-shop
Brno University of Technology (BUT) has launched a new university e-shop that connects a wide range of university products and services with a modern shopping experience. Everything in one place, clearly and online. Whether you're a student, employee, or an alumnus who loves your alma mater or wants to continue learning – the BUT E-shop is here for you.
The portal represents a unique and comprehensive sales and presentation platform among Czech universities. “We wanted to create a universal sales tool that makes it easier to access university products and services, whether it's books, promotional items, or, in the future, lifelong learning. Launching such a unified e-shop for both services and physical products is unique among Czech universities and brings significant added value to BUT,” says IT project manager Jitka Kubová, who led the project.
The project began with gathering requirements across the university, followed by a tender and the development of the solution itself. This was carried out by the company SIMPLO s.r.o., which ensured both the functionality and a modern design aligned with other BUT websites within a unified visual identity. The new portal is also connected to the SAP economic system, BUT accounts, and a payment gateway, which enables automation of financial processes and allows notifications via email and SMS.
The new e-shop becomes a simple access point to everything BUT offers – not only for students and employees but also for the general public. It currently offers primarily books from VUTIUM Publishing House and university merchandise, ranging from popular hoodies and t-shirts to small electronics and practical gadgets like luggage scales or travel mugs.

The creation of the e-shop, however, does not end here; on the contrary, it is a growing project. In the future, the product range will expand to include faculty-specific items and especially educational services – the first offering will be the BUT Junior program, available for purchase starting in July. Lifelong learning courses and tickets for university conferences, seminars, or lectures will appear on the website by the end of September. Further development is planned according to the university’s needs, including an English version.
“We see the university e-shop as an important step towards modernizing and streamlining access to the products and services that BUT offers. It allows us to better present the university to the outside world while providing a convenient and transparent solution for our staff and students. I believe it will play a key role in lifelong learning and the development of additional services in the future,” said bursar Daniela Němcová.
Practical information for shopping
Orders can be delivered via Zásilkovna or picked up in person at the Rectorate or the BUT Central Library. In the future, the university plans to expand delivery options and payment methods. A new warehouse has been established in the BUT campus at Kraví hora specifically for the e-shop.
If you’re shopping on the e-shop as an employee, make sure to check the purpose of your purchase. If you’re buying for personal use—for example, a hoodie, a book, or a ticket—simply log in with your BUT ID and order via the e-shop. However, if you're making a purchase as part of your work duties—for example, ordering promotional items for a conference or workshop—continue ordering through the form in the Internal Promotional Items Catalogue.
“From a marketing perspective, the university e-shop is an important part of our overall communication strategy and relationship building with the public. The e-shop is not just a practical tool, but also a modern gateway to the university world. It allows us to reach a broader audience, promote our brand in everyday life, and offer everything in one clear place,” adds Markéta Soukupová, head of the Marketing Department.
Visit the BUT E-shop and discover everything the university has to offer. Whether you’re looking for a unique gift, a professional publication, or a course – you’ll find it all in one place, online and easy.
