On Tuesday 17 November 2024, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication BUT held the final presentations and announcement of the winners of a new competition for students in the first year of Bachelor's programmes - FEKTTeams 2024. This innovative project aims to enrich the beginning of studies with practical experience and enable students to engage in interesting and topical challenges from the very beginning of their studies. Instead of the traditional focus on theoretical fundamentals, this year students immersed themselves in projects that involved practical areas of hardware design, software, measurement and research. Topics ranged from designing a drill rig for a Mars rover to analysing the sounds of bees - so the challenges were varied and quite unique. Teamwork, planning and presentation skills were the main key factors in this competition, which promises not only to develop professional skills but also the opportunity for students to gain valuable experience for their future careers.
First prize in the first year of the FEKTTeams 2024 competition:
1st place
Project name: Intelligent Hangar
Emanuel Antol, Lukáš Lenčeš, Lukáš Lev, Martin Strouhal, Hugo Bohácsek, Tomáš Proks
Mentor: Ing. Jiří Janoušek
Project description. The proposed modular docking station will provide drones with optimal conditions during charging and protection from external influences. The station will be adaptable for static and portable use, while allowing easy integration with vehicles for mobile operations. Its key features include automatic charging, drone health monitoring and a thermoregulation system for long drone life and reliability.
2nd place
Project name: DELTABOT
Oliver Drga, Kryštof Doležal, Vít Fousek, Ondra Dušek
Mentor: Ing. Dominik Friml
Delta bot is a type of robotic manipulator using 3-axis linear or rotary motion. This thesis deals with deltabot with linear motion. It is mainly used in industry for pick and place tasks. The advantage of deltabot over the more commonly used 6-axis manipulator is its speed, accuracy and repeatability. The deltabot constructed in this work is designed primarily for high speed.
3rd place
Project name: MAT Blinds
Vladan Matějka, Filip Myška, Matyáš Stehlík, Dominik Menc, Alan Matějka
Mentor: Ing. Jiří Majzner Ph.D.
Project Abstract: Smart Zigbee blinds that allow automation based on various parameters such as time, sunlight intensity or other user preferences. The blinds are battery powered, eliminating the need for complicated installation. They can be controlled via a mobile app. Integration with popular assistants such as Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, or Home Assistant makes them easy to use and customizable to users' daily needs.
