FEEC Students Succeeded at the RoboCup Junior World Championship in South Korea

From July 1 to 6, 2026, the RoboCup Junior World Championship took place in Incheon, South Korea, an event that brings together the best student teams from around the world every year. Among the participants was the XLC – WYLDFYRE team, which included two students from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication Technologies at Brno University of Technology.

RoboCup Junior featured six main competition categories focused on robotic soccer, rescue missions, and creative presentations of autonomous robots. The XLC – WYLDFYRE team competed in the Soccer Infrared category, in which autonomous robots play soccer with an infrared ball. The tournament was held using the Swiss system, which allows teams to play several matches against different opponents based on their current standings.

In the regular season, the team played seven games, finishing with a record of three wins, one tie, and three losses. Amid strong international competition, they finished in 11th place out of 24 teams. In addition to the main competition, team members also participated in the SuperTeams event, in which international teams of five are formed, consisting of representatives from different countries. Together with competitors from Australia, the Netherlands, and Slovenia, they managed to secure 4th place out of 6 teams.

“The opportunity to compete against teams from Brazil, Canada, Israel, the U.S., the Netherlands, and Slovenia was a tremendous experience for us. In addition to the competition itself, we also gained new insights into robotics, programming, and teamwork,” said team leader Martin Šuriak, reflecting on their participation in the world championship.

The XLC–WYLDFYRE team consisted of Martin Šuriak and Jakub Bohunický, students at FEEC, Brno University of Technology; Ondrej Peter, who will be studying at FEEC starting in the new academic year; and Diana Kunová.
