Majáles 2025: It Brought Me Experience and Friendship, Says the Queen from BUT
Social, goal-oriented and most of all competitive. Karolína Cíchová, candidate for the Queen of Brno Majáles, studies the Bachelor's program in Business Economics at the Faculty of Business and Management at Brno University of Technology. At Majáles, besides the role of queen, she also tried the position of coordinator – and regardless of which role she currently holds, for her Majáles primarily means fun and friendship.

Karolína comes from Moravia, graduated from the Business Academy in Uherské Hradiště and when choosing a university, she knew she wanted to continue on a business path. She was deciding between several business faculties and the one at BUT was most appealing to her. At the same time, she appreciated the advantage that the university is located in Brno, which is a student city full of opportunities for future development and professional growth.
Starting university was quite challenging for Karolína, but once she adjusted to the different teaching style, she began to engage in various extracurricular activities besides studying. Like Majáles. The role of queen isn't her first experience with this festival; last year she helped with its organization and as one of the coordinators for BUT she ensured communication between the royal couple, Majáles, and the university. "I got into it completely by chance, because I was the only one who applied," she laughs and adds that at first she had no idea what she was getting into.
The Brno Majáles grew close to her heart and she wanted to participate again this year in some form. She decided to run for queen at the urging of last year's king and his royal guard. "They kept telling me I had to apply, and I was tempted to try it from the other side, so I went for it," says Kája with a smile. As queen, she would like to bring a piece of herself, which is why she wore her folk costume to the coronation and maypole raising. "It describes me well. For four years I organized traditional festivities and I was also a 'stárka,' which is also like a queen," she explains.
Technology – The ace up her sleeve
Karolína believes that thanks to her energy and determination, this year's Majáles will become an unforgettable experience. "I would like to keep the crown at BUT, so I'll give it everything," she says enthusiastically. She was most looking forward to events where students from all Brno universities would be together, such as the competition for a band on a flatbed truck, raising the maypole, or the festival parade. "We are a good team and we agree that we mainly want to enjoy it," comments the BUT candidate for queen. She likes that Majáles brings people together. | Author: Václav Koníček
The royal couple wants to support their university not only through good presentation during the Majáles celebrations but also through the theme that BUT students have chosen for this year. "We chose the theme Technology - the ace up our sleeve because we study at a great university and we want to show this to everyone," Kája describes with a smile.
And what does she like most about BUT? She especially appreciates the approach of the teachers, their willingness to help students, and the creativity with which some of them conduct their teaching. Moreover, the Brno Majáles queen candidate will be able to apply her studies in the Business Economics program outside of school and work. Her family owns a family winery, so she will definitely use her professional knowledge in this area. In the future, however, she would like to focus more on online marketing and creating content for social media.
