Lokni at FEEC: Over 115,000 PET Bottles Saved in a Year
They have been quietly doing their job since September 2019, and their 2025 figures are worth sharing — two Lokni filtered water dispensers that have become a permanent part of the faculty.
Lokni is a Czech network of filtration stations that allow users to fill their own bottles with quality drinking water — still or sparkling. The water passes through carbon filters and is treated with UV-C technology, removing chlorine, microplastics, pharmaceutical residues and unwanted bacteria, while preserving the water's natural mineral content. The stations were originally installed under the Filtermac brand, which was later rebranded as Lokni. Water at the faculty is free of charge. To use the dispensers, download the Lokni mobile app, available for Android and iOS — registration is open to any email address, a university email is not required. The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication (FEEC) stations are listed in the Lokni network as Lokni+, which means every user automatically receives the FREE tier, entitling them to up to 3 litres of still or sparkling water per day at no cost. See how it works in practice in this tutorial video.
FEEC BUT was one of the first faculties to join the network — and according to Lokni's 2025 annual report, we are active contributors to the university-wide results. BUT as a whole saved over 360,000 PET bottles last year and nearly 1.75 million since the partnership began. Four BUT faculties are currently part of the network:
the Faculty of Civil Engineering leads in absolute terms (5,600 students), followed by FEEC (3,200), Faculty of Business and Management (2,630) and Faculty of information technology (2,300). FEEC's share for 2025 amounts to over 115,000 saved bottles, 2,885 kg of plastic and 6,635 kg of CO2 that would otherwise have been generated by the production and transport of bottled water. Those are numbers we can be proud of. When looking at bottles saved per student, FEEC comes out on top among all four faculties — 36 half-litre bottles per student per year, which is a full shopping basket of plastic that was never produced. Picture all 3,200 FEEC students, each carrying such a basket — that is roughly what we saved together.
Both dispensers are located in faculty buildings on Technická street: one in the atrium of Technická 8, the other in the corridor near the Professor Brauner Auditorium at Technická 12.
Bring your bottle, download the app — and remember, every PET bottle that is never made counts. Thank you for helping us protect the environment!
