Majáles 2025 in pictures: BUT shone in the parade and festival zone
The month-long student celebration traditionally culminated at Brno Majáles, which this year celebrated its 20th anniversary! Among the music and entertainment, Brno University of Technology (BUT) was also present with its university zone and an outstanding royal couple.
Brno Majáles symbolizes the celebration of student life and connects all five Brno universities. Their representatives jointly erect the traditional Maypole and represent their universities both in the Majáles parade and at the festival itself. The highlight is the coronation of the King and Queen of Brno Majáles, who symbolically reign over student Brno for the following year.
The Majáles parade was full of university colors
This year’s Majáles day began at Svobody Square, where supporters of BUT, Masaryk University, Mendel University, University of Veterinary Sciences Brno, and the University of Defence gathered. Students and alumni of BUT stood out in red, adorned with sparkling gems, heart-shaped glasses, and large flags, making them impossible to miss.
After performances by student bands that won the Majáles Band Contest, the royal entourages enthusiastically kicked off the event by cutting the ribbon, thus officially launching this year’s Majáles.
The colorful parade then moved from Svobody Square toward the Brno Exhibition Grounds, led by floats. The BUT float featured musician Dorian accompanying the royal couple. Other university floats were joined by acts such as Jelen, Vypsaná Fixa, Mikolas Josef, Manene, and Grey256.
The BUT zone was unmissable
At the main Majáles event, the university showcased itself in the BUT zone, where visitors could try a variety of technical experiments and take on sports or knowledge-based challenges. Located directly across from the main stage and near the lookout tower proudly displaying the VUT name and logo, the university’s presence was truly unmissable.
Six student teams presented themselves to the festival audience in the BUT zone – BUT Drone Research, Brno Mars Rover, Chicken Wings, TU Brno Racing, YSpace, and StrojLab.
Besides the student teams, visitors also got to explore projects from the Faculty of Information Technology, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Civil Engineering, and the Institute of Forensic Engineering at BUT.
Music fans participated in competitions held by the BUT Cavaliers hockey team and in a quiz organized by the Department of Internationalization. Visitors also enjoyed fun activities at student organization booths such as ARC Siola or ESN VUT Brno.
In the afternoon, Rector Ladislav Janíček visited the university zone, greeted the student teams, and discussed the technologies they are currently developing.
Five universities – one family
The royal couples were expected to introduce themselves to the public and perform their royal showcase. “Majáles is definitely not just about great music. It is the only music festival in the Czech Republic that supports students. There are many music festivals, but there is only one Majáles,” said Vašek, the King representing BUT.
During their royal performance, supported by their inner guard, BUT students followed this year’s theme Technology – the ace up our sleeve. The audience was wowed by an energetic dance number and a song composed and performed by King Vašek himself.
However, at the coronation, green prevailed. The title of King and Queen went to Mendel University, with Kryšpín and Barča set to hold the symbolic royal scepter for the coming year.
High praise also goes to the candidates from BUT – Queen Kája from the Faculty of Business and Management and King Vašek from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication! Both proudly represented not only their faculties but the entire university. Thanks also go to the royal guard and coordinators who supported the BUT candidates throughout the Majáles festivities.
Congratulations to the new royal couple from Mendel University and thank you to our candidates and royal entourage for representing BUT so well!
