ThiResearchers’ Night at BUT: How People, Machines and Technologies Communicate
Can people communicate without words? How does a rocket communicate with a ground station? And can we communicate with computers? This year’s Researchers’ Night, dedicated to the theme of communication, will provide the answers. Experts from Brno University of Technology will once again take part in the event, inviting visitors to enjoy science shows, engaging popular science talks, fascinating experiments and fun workshops on Friday, 25 September.

Communication is all around us, and its many forms are the central theme of this year’s Researchers’ Night. Experts from Brno University of Technology have prepared activities at eleven locations, showing that communication is about much more than words. It can take the form of images, data, or signals exchanged between people and machines. The programme starts at 5:00 p.m. and will continue until late in the evening.
How is communication used in science, technology and art?
At the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication, we will showcase communication in many different forms – through light, radio waves and modern electronic devices. Visitors will be able to experience a laser cinema, music transmitted by light, augmented reality and hands-on electrical circuit activities, as well as discover how electronic devices communicate with each other and how 5G networks work. There will also be races with small robots.
Weather permitting, the area in front of the Faculty will once again be illuminated by several-metre-long lightning bolts generated by our now-traditional large Tesla coil. Visitors will also be able to explore the inner workings of a nuclear power plant through virtual reality and learn how to communicate about nuclear energy, ionising radiation and the associated risks in a way that everyone can understand. They will discover why the same information can inspire both trust and concern, and how much depends on the way it is communicated. The programme will also include a demonstration of radiation data and a model of a nuclear reactor. Find the detailed Researchers’ Night programme at FEEC here.
