270 elementary school students completed a cybersecurity training course at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication at Brno University of Technology
On Thursday, April 30, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication at Brno University of Technology (FEEC BUT) welcomed approximately 270 students in grades 5–9 from the Brno Elementary and Preschool School at Antonínská 3 to the Professor Brauner Auditorium. An educational program focused on cybersecurity and the risks students may encounter in the online environment was prepared for the students.
The event was opened by Jaroslav Koton, Dean of the Faculty, and Libor Tománek, Director of Antonínská Elementary School. The main part of the program was led by cybersecurity expert Willi Lazarov from the FEEC BUT, who has long been involved in education regarding digital threats and the development of teaching scenarios within the BUTCA platform. In his interactive lecture, he introduced students to current threats in cyberspace as well as practical guidelines: “Children today spend a large part of their time online, but they often don’t realize the risks this entails. Our goal was to show them specific real-world situations and teach them how to behave safely in the digital environment,” says Willi Lazarov.
“We greatly value our collaboration with BUT. For our students, this kind of experience is not only educational but also motivating—they see what studying and working in the field of technology can look like,” says Libor Tománek, director of Antonínská Elementary School.
FEEC BUT follows up on the training by, among other things, providing access to the BUTCA educational platform, which students will be able to use in the coming months.
The event was part of the collaboration between the school and the faculty and stems from the faculty’s long-term effort to introduce technical fields to younger generations and strengthen their digital literacy.
