Here you can start: There's always someone who can give you advice, says a student at FEEC BUT
Open-faced sandwiches. That is the one word Jakub Prvý uses to describe Brno University of Technology. Jakub is one of the faces of this year’s admissions campaign. He studies the follow-up master’s programme Cybernetics, Automation and Measurement at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication and leads the student team Drone Research Center. His message to applicants is simple – don’t be afraid to ask questions, teachers are here to teach you, not to punish you for not understanding something.
Jakub Prvý, student at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication Technologies, Brno University of Technology. | Author: Jan Prokopius BUT was Jakub’s first choice. “You can study this field elsewhere, but not at the same quality. And BUT simply has prestige,” he explains. “I actually chose it partly because I’m a bit lazy, and automation seemed like the ideal way to simplify and automate everyday activities,” he adds with a laugh. What he appreciates most about his field of study isthe possibility to connect hardware with software and actually control things.
Already during his studies, Jakub has been involved inresearch directly at the faculty, focusing on unmanned aerial vehicles. According to him, working on real projects brings valuable experience and allows him to apply knowledge from classes in practice. “I was surprised by the amount of theory you have to master during your studies. The advantage is that we can try many things directly in the laboratories. I regularly work with drones, high-quality measuring equipment or tools for industrial automation,” he explains, adding that this makes studying much easier. He is currently on Erasmus at Tallinn University of Technology in Estonia, where he is gaining international experience and has even become one of the founders of the local TalTech Drone Club, which focuses on drones. "We've already been to one Hackathon and are working on other technical projects," he adds.
Author: Jan Prokopius At BUT in Brno, he especiallyappreciates the quality of teaching, the facilities for students and the friendly atmosphere. “There are many smart people here with whom I can develop my ideas and creativity. And if I don’t know something, I can go and talk to one of the teachers or discuss it with my classmates. So far, it has never happened that someone brushed me off or didn’t want to talk to me,” Jakub highlights.
Author: Jan Prokopius Jakub spends his free time in Brno quite actively. He enjoys the sports facilities, places with great food andleads the student association Drone Research Center, where they focus on the development and construction of unmanned aircraft. “It’s great because you get your hands on real practice, you’re never bored, and it can even become the basis for your bachelor’s or master’s thesis. We also take part in various university events where there is always good refreshments. That’s why I mentioned the sandwiches,” he concludes with a smile. Jakub joined the admissions campaign mainly because he enjoys communicating with people andhe likes BUT, so he wants to spread his positive experience with the university further.
And what would he say to his high-school-graduation self?“You made the right choice!”
